Evil has returned to Derry, Maine, and the Losers Club is all grown up and ready to fight It.
Over the past few weeks, fans of 2017's IT — the blockbuster new adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling novel — have watched with anticipation as the final pieces of casting were put in place for its sequel, IT Chapter Two. Stars James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain — who was dream casting for the adult version of Beverly Marsh from the moment the first film was released — only added to the anticipation with Instagram posts celebrating the start of work on the sequel. Now, we have our first official look at the assembled adult Losers Club, thanks to this official table read photo released Monday by Warner Bros.
From left to right, that's Chastain as Beverly Marsh, McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, and Andy Bean as Stanley Uris.
Bill Skarsgard, who leapt into everyone's nightmares last fall as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, will reprise his role for Chapter Two. The actors who played the Losers Club as children — Jaeden Lieberher as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie — are also all set to reprise their roles in flashbacks. Director Andy Muschietti and writer Gary Dauberman will also return to their respective roles.
Set 27 years after the first film, which places it roughly in the present day, IT Chapter Two will follow the adult Losers Club as they reunite in Derry to battle the evil they'd hope they vanquished as children. At the end of the first film, they take a blood oath to all return to Derry if the evil known as Pennywise ever returns, after establishing that it has a feeding and hibernation cycle that lasts approximately 27 years. Chapter Two will see them forced to honor that oath and face the killer clown (and whatever other forms it takes) once again.
IT Chapter Two arrives in theaters Sept. 6, 2019, almost two years to the day after the first film debuted. It may be a while before we see any official footage from the sequel, but it's still heartwarming to see the gang together.
