The new season of Syfy’s The Magicians promises to spend more time in the fantastical world of Fillory, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some terrifying threats still out there. Namely? The Beast.

The mysterious creature/person menaced the students of Brakebills for much of the first season, and we finally get to fully put a face to the name in Season 2. A new featurette for Season 2 shows off Charles Mesure (V, Desperate Housewives) in his freaky role as the ultra-powerful Big Bad. So what makes him so strong? As fans know, magic in The Magicians world is typically done with complex finger movements (aka "tutting"), and the Beast has six fingers on each hand instead of five. Apparently, that extra finger really gives him an edge.

At least judging by the footage here, Season 2 will be paying off a good bit on all the set up from Season 1 in regard to the mysterious baddie, plus the reveal of his actual identity and his connection to the deeper mythology of Fillory. Don't worry, no spoilers here, in case you're looking to catch up on Season 1 before the show returns.

The Magicians returns on Jan. 25 on Syfy.
