The Mandalorian cast and crew react to Star Wars series’ 15 Emmy nods, including Best Drama Series
You don't know the power of the Dark Side Baby Yoda. The Television Academy showed that it subscribes to The Mandalorian creed earlier today by bestowing Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars series with a whopping 15 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
This marks a very promising awards season debut for the fledgling Disney+, as well as the first live-action Emmy nods for the Star Wars franchise in almost four decades. According to Deadline, the made-for-TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor racked up three nominations back in the mid-1980s. Over the years, however, Lucasfilm has been recognized in the world of animation for The Clone Wars (both the Tartakovsky and Filoni versions) and Star Wars Resistance (nominated for Outstanding Children's Program today). In addition, the Star Wars Show competed for Oustanding Short Form Variety Series in 2017.
Once today's nomination news broke, members of the crew, cast, and audience streamed (pun intended) onto social media in order to congratulate The Mandalorian on its achievements. To makes things even more special, we recommend that you down a celebratory shot of blue milk. This is the way!

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is slated to arrive on Disney+ this October. Fortunately, production finished up before the pandemic shut everything down. A third season is already in the works. There may very well be future Emmy nods for the galaxy far, far away, especially since the Mouse House's streaming platform is developing several Lucasfilm-produced shows like the Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone, a female-led project from Leslye Headland, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
The 72nd Emmys are scheduled to take place Sunday, Sep. 20 on ABC.
