After weeks of teasers, Netflix has now unveiled the official trailer for Daredevil Season 3, and with it comes a surprising new nemesis for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.
Season 3 finds Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) attempting to return to his life as a vigilante in the wake of the events of The Defenders, which seemingly left him dead beneath a building in New York City. In fact, Murdock was being nursed back to health by nuns in an echo of Frank Miller's classic Daredevil run, and now that he's been restored he's roaming the city again with a new twist on his old mission. This version of Daredevil, back in his old, basic black gear, isn't out for redemption. He's out for blood and darkness.
To make matters worse, the city also seems to have a new hero clad in white thanks to the return of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), who finds his way out of prison and decides to present himself to the world as a kind of redeemed savior for the city. Behind the new image, though, Fisk is still the ruthless kingpin he always was, and to beat Daredevil for good he's concocted a diabolical new plan in which he'll pit Murdock against a villain he never saw coming: Another Daredevil. Check out the trailer.
The trailer is steeped in classic Frank Miller imagery, including Murdock perched on a rooftop next to a cross, and Matt's descent into darkness as he literally has to battle himself as well as Fisk might mean this is the most compelling season of Daredevil yet. Throw in the return of Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and you've got another must-watch season of street-level Marvel fun.
Daredevil returns October 19 on Netflix.
