The Originals hit the stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday shortly after Season 5, which will debut mid-season 2018, was announced as their last. Executive producer Julie Plec joined cast members Charles Michael Davis, Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel to reminisce about the past four seasons of The Originals.

It's clear the show has a huge fan base and the sizzle reel at the beginning of the panel was a good reminder of all of the amazing experiences the characters have had over the past four years -- with a few sneak peeks at what's to come! Once the cast was on stage, they admitted to getting emotional seeing the sizzle reel but all are happy the show gets to end on their own terms.

In the sizzle reel we got a first look a teenage Hope (since there's a ten-year time jump), who will be played by Danielle Rose Russell. Plec said Russell is a natural and first saw her in her amazing scene in Cameron Crowe's Aloha (2015). After the time jump, Freya and Vincent will probably look a little different ... but Riley Voelkel joked that she hoped Freya wouldn't look too different, even after ten years.

Plec discussed the future of couple Hayley and Elijah, who she says have seen "the darkest parts" of each other. Hayley needs to be her own champion and teach her daughter the same. Phoebe Tonkin says they love each other dearly and have faced a lot of tough times but hopefully there’s a world where they can exist together whether romantically or as a family.

Family is a central theme of the show and it's obvious the cast feels the same about each other. Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies constantly ribbed each other about everything from hair to wardrobe to Joseph directing David in an upcoming episode — the third of Season 5.

Charles Michael Davis teared up as the cast talked about what they'd take away once the show was over, which ranged from remembering how loving everyone was to the laughs on set. Oh, and Joseph Morgan said he's already taken a gold coin and "various items of clothing" from set.

What's the biggest threat in Season 5? Plec says Klaus doesn't like to follow the rules and there will be consequences. She also said she’'d love to have some familiar faces re-visit their characters in Season 5. So who knows who will drop by?

Julie ended the panel with a big thank you to fans and saying that she wants both the characters and fans to feel "peace" when the show ends.
