Long before he was voicing Peter Griffin or a foul-mouthed Bostonian teddy bear, Seth MacFarlane was making and starring in Star Trek fans films with his friends. A two-and-a-half minute video posted to YouTube back in November shows the Family Guy/American Dad creator doing an admirable Captain Kirk impression, which, if we're being honest, is just a William Shatner impression.
Alongside him are two of his friends playing Spock and Uhura as a poorly-rendered Enterprise takes them through some sort of wormhole and out of the space time continuum. Even Scotty is included over the ship's radio, which sounds suspiciously like MacFarlane trying out an early Stewie voice.
The video, aside from giving us a rare glimpse at MacFarlane as a young fan boy, serves as proof that the 44-year-old comedian is as big a lover of Star Trek as he says he is. In the past, he said that he wanted to leave Family Guy in order to reboot the classic series. While that didn't exactly happen, his latest show for Fox, The Orville, is partly a parody of Gene Rodenberry's creation and was recently renewed for a second season.
Here is the fan film in all of its glory, Seth's bangs and all:
Although we don't know what year this was made, the video's caption purports that MacFarlane was either 14 or 15-years-old at the time.
Representatives for MacFarlane did not immediately respond to SYFY WIRE's request for comment.
