The role that got away from Gal Gadot: Mad Max’s Imperator Furiosa

Actors are frequently haunted by the ghosts of the roles they didn’t play. Heck, today we learned David Hasselhoff almost played Superman. It turns out that Gal Gadot, aka Wonder Woman, has her own tale of “the one that got away.”

Gal Gadot told Geek Tyrant, “I was runner-up for Mad Max with Charlize [Theron]."

Theron had won the part of Imperator Furiosa in the 2015 post-apoca-stravaganza Mad Max: Fury Road. But had Theron turned down the role, Gadot would have filled her steel-toed boots.

Gadot said, "I had so many almosts for big, great things. But I was never big enough of a name. It was always me and the big-name [actress].”

Perhaps it’s just as well. Theron’s cool intensity lit up the screen. Gadot brought a more earnest energy to the role of Diana in Wonder Woman. Even a hint of optimism can’t play in the wasteland of Max’s world.

It’s a happy ending, for Gadot at least. Now she has become that big name. And some other actress has just stepped into her shoes as the runner-up.
