Over the weekend, after much anticipation, Warner Bros.' animated adaptation of The Death of Superman finally had its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con. The film got its digital release on Tuesday, and it's Blu-ray release is looming, which means it's now possible for eager fans to finally absorb this new take on a classic story. It also means we're getting out first look at what comes next.
The Death of Superman, as comic book fans know, is actually the first part in a three-part saga with the umbrella title The Death and Return of Superman. The middle phase of that saga, Reign of the Supermen, explores what happens to the world when the power vacuum created by Superman's death is filled by four different beings each claiming to be Superman in some form: Superboy, Steel, Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman. Now, that story's also getting the animated treatment.
On Sunday, a sneak peek at footage from the animated sequel to Death of Superman finally made its way online, but it's only now really starting to gain traction in the wake of Comic-Con. While it's not a full trailer, it does take the form of a four-and-a-half minute featurette complete with looks at completed animation, animatics, and character designs for the film, along with interviews with its creators.
"Superman represents hope, and at the end of Death of Superman that hope is lost," screenwriter Tim Sheridan said. "The question of where we go from there is what we're trying to explore with this story."

Reign of the Supermen is set to arrive sometime next year.
