The Simpsons take on The Hobbit with epic Middle-earth couch gag

During its 25 year run, The Simpsons has taken aim at just about every piece of pop culture over the past few decades. The latest? The Hobbit, and it is awesome.

Not content to blow us away with Guillermo del Toro’s creep-tastic horror opening from a few weeks ago, the beloved animated series is heading to Middle-earth for its latest opening-episode couch gag. From dragons to dwarves, all the stalwarts are here.

The cameos come fast and furious, as the producers do a great job weaving the series’ characters into the fantastical world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Seriously, you’ll have to watch it a few times to catch all the goodies. The best part? Keep an eye out for Moe’s version of Gollum. Hilarious.

This also marks one of the show’s longest opening gags, clocking in at over a minute and a half. Well worth it, if you ask us.

Be sure to check out the upcoming Sunday, Nov. 3, episode on Fox to see this one live.
