We've seen plenty of stunning imagery from Star Wars: The Force Awakens thanks to the trailers released so far, but the image of a Star Destroyer crashed into the desert sands of the planet Jakku is easily among the most memorable moments. It's an epic depiction of the fall of the Galactic Empire, and a reminder that the conflict we saw in the original films is still very much alive in the minds of the characters. Now, we get to find out how that incredible image was formed, thanks to Star Wars: Battlefront.
The new frontier in Star Wars videogames announced this week that Battlefront will feature the DLC "Battle of Jakku," which will apparently heavily feature the crashed Star Destroyer, as well as the X-Wing fighter we saw in the foreground of that shot. Here's how the scenario will play out, according to Electronic Arts.
"Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
"In the artwork above [shown below here], a Star Destroyer has crash landed, and from the belly of this battle-scared metal giant, a myriad of Imperial ground troops have evacuated and engaged with Rebel troops, also strangers to this desert planet."
The "Battle of Jakku" DLC will be available December 1 to everyone who pre-ordered Battlefront, and will arrive a week later for all other players, 10 days before The Force Awakens arrives to show the current state of Jakku.
However you get hold of it, this DLC will clearly shed some powerful new light on how the world of The Force Awakens was shaped. Check out some concept art below.
