As the stars hit the Crait carpet at the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in Los Angeles, one particular cast member couldn't contain her tears of joy. And honestly, who could blame her?
In The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran joins the Star Wars family as Rose Tico -- the first Asian-American lead in a Star Wars film. And at The Last Jedi premiere, Tran's emotions were understandably on high. This is Star Wars, after all. In an interview with Andi Gutierrez of The Star Wars Show, Tran began tearing up, saying, "They told me not to cry." But she's in a Star Wars movie and being interviewed on a red carpet re-creation of Crait with a giant AT-AT behind her; who wouldn't be freaking out?
Further down the carpet, Tran took a moment to thank The Last Jedi producer Ram Bergman for the opportunity of a lifetime.
And there's nothing like getting comfort from one of the only other people who could possibly know what you're feeling. Luckily, Tran found co-star Daisy Ridley (Rey), who surely understands just how overwhelming the night is. Seeing these two embrace is the kind of joy this galaxy needs.
Kelly Marie Tran at The Last Jedi premiere is basically all of us crying with joy that we're getting a new Star Wars movie. And in just a few days.
Catch Kelly Marie Tran and the rest of the cast when The Last Jedi catapults into theaters December 15. Bring tissues.
