Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead has come a long way the past few years, and now the franchise extends across everything form video games to a spin-off TV series. Now, could the star of The Walking Dead video game make the jump to a new medium?
In the letters page of the latest issue of The Walking Dead, comic editor Sean Mackiewicz was asked if the video game protagonist Clementine could potentially show up in a future issue of the comic or even on the television series in a future season. Clementine is a young girl in Telltale Games’ massive hit series; she started as a scared little girl and has grown into a grizzled survivor capable of holding her own against everything the apocalypse can offer.
Here's the choice excerpt:
"Telltale's latest installment of their TWD game series, 'The New Frontier,' occurs during the time jump after TWD #126. So a lot could happen before she ever appeared. And that's not me being coy. I have no idea ... yet. It takes time to write those things."
It seems the comic team is obviously involved in keeping tabs on how all these timelines connect, and it's important to note that Clementine actually crossed paths with the comic/TV character Jesus in a recent installment in the game series. So the threads are there for these worlds to intersect — and Mackiewicz definitely didn't shoot down the prospect.
There's also the fact that Clementine is a fantastic character with an interesting story all her own, and as The Walking Dead keeps ambling on for more seasons, they could use a few fresh stories to keep fans coming back for something new. Weaving in Clementine could be a fresh catalyst for the show (much like Daryl) or even a strong new heroine in the comic series.
What do you think? Would you like to see Clem in comics or on TV?
