AMC's The Walking Dead will premiere its midseason finale next week, but fans can now whet their appetites with this peek at a short trailer for the extra-long eighth episode.

"All you need to do is survive tonight," says Carl, and he means it, with Rick and the Scavengers attempting to defeat the Saviors at the Sanctuary. In the latest episode, however, they arrive at the Sanctuary with the Walkers gone.

The trailer shows Rick, Jadis & Co. coming under heavy fire. In fact, there's a lot of artillery in the sneak preview, which even has Michonne wielding an AK-47 instead of her usual katanas. The finale has to deliver on the action, as it will be a major battle against Negan.

This season has been about big developments for the franchise. The first episode of Season 8 was The Walking Dead’s 100th episode, while big crossover news involving Lennie James' Morgan was recently announced on Talking Dead. In the face of lower ratings and a decline in fan adoration, the series continues to be the network’s biggest draw at the moment.

"How It's Gotta Be" airs on Dec. 10 on AMC at 9 p.m. ET/8 CT.
