WARNING! This story contains spoilers for the first half of The Walking Dead's eighth season.
The midseason finale of The Walking Dead Season 8 didn't end on such a happy note. Alexandria was destroyed, Carl got bitten by a zombie, and Enid (Katelyn Nacon) and Aaron (Ross Marquand) accidentally killed the leader of Oceanside. The pain Rick feels at his son being infected is exemplified in the new key art released for the second half of the season. The image, emblazoned with the words "THE LAST STAND," shows Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in the middle flanked by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus, left) and Michonne (Danai Gurira, right), and armed and ready for a fight.
Will Rick shoot Carl himself or will Carl, who helped the Alexandrians to safety when Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attacked, have the courage to pull the trigger himself?
Speaking of Negan, he and the Saviors are facing all-out rebellion from the Alexandrians, the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and the Scavengers. While he's killed half the Kingdom and enslaved the rest, Negan is still dealing with traitors and power-hungry saboteurs within his own ranks. Plus, Eugene's loyalty is set to be tested, even after securing a major victory for the Saviors.
While all this is going on, a pregnant Maggie (Lauren Cohan) struggles with her role as leader and the PoW lives she holds in her hands. It can't help to have one in the oven when you're helping wage a war against a murderous and maniacal tyrant with zombies roaming around everywhere to top things off.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC for the second half of its eighth season with an extended episode on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 9 p.m. ET.
