Season 9 of AMC's The Walking Dead has already begun shooting, and TMZ and some fan sites/social accounts have gotten their hands on a nice collection of photos from the set that seem to indicate that the show will definitely be jumping forward in time.
The temporal skip comes after the "All Out War" storyline in the comics, where humanity is thriving and there's a security system in place between the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and the Alexandria Safe Zone.
There's also the presence of Old Man Rick, who uses a cane and has short hair and a beard as snowy white as Father Christmas. All of this serenity goes straight to Hell, however, upon the arrival of the Whisperers, humans who wear the skins of dispatched Walkers so as to blend in with them. They also don't speak louder than a whisper in order to keep up the ruse and not be bitten and/or eaten.
In the new set photos (below), you can see Rick (Andrew Lincoln) with a new, clean-cut look while riding on a horse. He obviously wouldn't have time to get a haircut or crop a white beard if there were still a war going on, so that's the first hint Season 9 could take place several months to even a year or more after the death of Carl (Chandler Riggs) and the battle with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who was still alive and kicking at the end of last season.
In the other images, you can see Michonne (Danai Gurira), Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). In particular, Daryl seems to be the only person not riding a horse, instead choosing a motorcyle. Then again, Daryl always was the renegade of the Survivors.
All in the all, the presence of Amish-esque carriages gives off the impression of a world at peace, or as much peace as there can be during the zombie apocalypse. How the status quo will be shattered is yet to be seen, but at least we can unpack these new images for a while until Season 9 gets here.
