The Walking Dead shuts down production due to Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma is causing untold horror and heartbreak in the southwest. It is so scary, it has even scared away The Walking Dead

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production has been halted on the AMC zombie drama as Hurricane Irma turns towards Georgia, where The Walking Dead shoots. The CW vampire drama, The Originals, has also halted production. Though the hurricane is predicted to be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it hits Georgia, that doesn't mean it will be any less dangerous.

This is the second time this season that The Walking Dead had to shut down production. In July, production halted after stunt man John Bernecker died while performing a stunt.

AMC has not confirmed how long production will be shuttered. It likely depends on how long Irma hovers, and how extensive the damage is to the set. Hopefully this will not delay or shorten the eighth season, which is currently scheduled to premiere on October 22.

Stay safe out there!
