Warner Bros. has released a devastating new trailer for Gerard Butler's upcoming sci-fi/disaster movie, Geostorm.

Co-written by Dean Devlin (Independence Day) and Paul Guyot (The Librarians), with Devlin sitting in the director’s chair for the first time ever, Geostorm also stars Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Abbie Cornish (Limitless), Alexandra Maria Lara (Rush), Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands), Ed Harris (Westworld), Andy Garcia (Passengers), Adepero Oduye (12 Years a Slave), Amr Waked (Lucy), Robert Sheehan (Misfits), Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included), Mare Winningham (American Horror Story), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) and Katheryn Winnick (Vikings).

The Olympus Has Fallen and 300 alum plays the role of a scientist who has to fix a satellite malfunction in order to save the planet in a world where satellites can now control the weather. From the trailer, Geostorm totally looks like The Day After Tomorrow meets Twister (and a bunch of other disaster movies thrown into the mix) with parts of the movie set on board the International Space Station. It also boasts a hefty dose of action and humor, and could potentially be a whole lotta fun to watch.

After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world's leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong — the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it's a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything ... and everyone along with it.

Gerard Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Jim Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program's malfunction. Abbie Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Alexandra Maria Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Daniel Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; with Andy Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Ed Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom.

Geostorm will be unleashed in movie theaters on Oct. 20.
