The floor at New York Comic Con draws some of the most creative cosplayers in the city, creating a virtual traffic jam of inventive costumes. The vast floor is necessarily egalitarian, so modest modification stand side-by-side with complicated builds, and given the crowds, it can sometimes be hard to spot the best of the best.
Unless you have a ticket to Saturday night's NYCC Championships of Cosplay.
More cosplay
The top cosplayers on the East Coast gathered on Saturday evening to show off their most intricate and creative designs, with a $5000 cash prize and a berth in next year's Global Championships of Cosplay event at C2E2 on the line. It was a lively event filled with incredible work and a boisterous crowd, including a Freddie Mercury cosplayer who lip-synced the entirety of "Bohemian Rhapsody" before the event even really kicked off. NYCC is just that kind of party.
