Henry Cavill may be finished as Superman, but he's just get started in the realm of monster hunting. Today, Netflix released our first look at the Mission: Impossible actor as Geralt of Rivia in the streamer's upcoming Witcher series.
The relatively short video is a costume and makeup test that begins with a clapperboard. Then, Cavill steps out of the shadows, wearing a black leather costume and a wig of silvery gray hair. He looks past the camera before taking a swig of some unknown liquid from a small crystal vial.
Check it out in the video below:
The video ends with the message that the show (overseen by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich) will arrive sometime in 2019. Rivia, the central protagonist, is a professional Witcher, a sort of mercenary who hunts down and kills monsters for payment.
Earlier this month, Freya Allan (Into the Badlands) was cast was Geralt's surrogate daughter, Ciri and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust) as his love interest Yennefer. Jodhi May (Down a Dark Hall), Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson (Alien: Covenant - Phobos), Adam Levy (Supergirl), MyAnna Buring (In the Dark), Mimi Ndiweni (The Legend of Tarzan), Therica Wilson-Read (Suicide Club), Millie Brady (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword), and Jimmy O. Yang (Fantasy Island) are also part of the main cast.
Based on the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has spawned a multimedia franchise since its inception in 1993. Numerous TV, film, and video game adaptations have been produced over the years with no shortage of source material — Sapkowski's released eight Witcher novels to date.
