TV Line reports that the Terminator 2: Judgement Day star was originally slated to have a significant role in the upcoming season, but had to bow out because of his commitment to filming CBS's Scorpion.
“I actually wrote him into an episode,” says Carter. “But then I found out he wasn’t going to be available to us [because of Scorpion] so I had to write him out of the episode… Scorpion is his first priority.”
Carter then adds somewhat cryptically, “That’s not to say you won’t see him this season…”
Patrick – who played Agent John Doggett in Seasons 8 and 9 of the show – also confirmed that a scheduling conflict affected his involvement. His character’s partner, Monica Reyes (played by Annabeth Gish), was a big part of the Season 10 cliffhanger, making Doggett’s return entirely welcome and plausible.
Either way, it’s certainly going to be a very special season, considering it may well be the last, now that Gillian Anderson has revealed she’s calling it quits on playing Agent Scully.
Speaking with Deadline, Anderson also expressed her view that the show could possibly exist without her. "“I’m trying to finish this season. I certainly think the show has much more life in it. So, I can’t answer that question definitively, but I can tell you that there are more stories to tell.”
Season 11 is set to land on Fox in Jan. 2018. What do you think of Robert Patrick possibily returning to the show?
