Something's hiding in the Arctic, and it wants Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton's bodies. The first trailer for The Thing has finally debuted, and it's filled with freaky, shapeshifting craziness.

The Thing centers on a paleontologist named Kate Lloyd (Winstead) who travels to Antarctica to investigate an eerie find: Some explorers have stumbled across a strange ship encased in ice, and they have no idea what it really is or where it came from. (Hint: it's not from Earth).

Little do they know the ship holds a dangerous shapeshifting creature that starts picking them off one by one. There's nothing like being trapped, isolated and scared for your life with an alien creature on the loose. That's what we call suspense!

For those of you worried about this being a remake, The Thing is actually a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film. Therefore, you shouldn't be too worried about it stomping on anyone's creative toes.

Aside from Winstead and Edgerton, the cast of The Thing includes Jonathan Lloyd Walker, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Eric Christian Olsen.

Matthijs van Heijningen directed The Thing, which opens everywhere on Oct. 14.
