There may not be a Christmas special, but Doctor Who did make this sweet animated short

Merry Christmas, Whovians old and new! Although the new season of Doctor Who is finished, and we won’t be receiving a traditional Christmas special this year, we have been given a delightful animated short from the BBC to get us all in the festive spirit (and tide us over until the New Year’s special).

Courtesy of the show’s official Twitter feed Doctor Who has provided a minute-long animated film narrated by Bradley Walsh (who plays Graham in the series) about Santa’s sleigh not working on the night before Christmas and The Doctor (voiced by Jodie Whittaker) on call to offer a helping hand — or, TARDIS. Considering Santa helped the Doctor and Clara out of a literal nightmare in the 2014 Christmas Special “Last Christmas,” it really is the least she could do for Old Saint Nick.

Check it out.

The Doctor Who Christmas special has been something of a tradition for fans for years. But the BBC revealed earlier this year that there would be no Christmas episode for Doctor Who this year, with the annual special being moved to New Year’s Day.

The New Year’s special, written by new showrunner Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip, will focus on The Doctor & her friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Graham (Walsh), and Yaz (Mandip Gill) working to save the earth from some terrifying evil threat. (Yeah, that’s all we’ve got so far.)

So, while we wait for the Doctor & Co. to save the world (again) in 2019, we’ve got this amusing short to tide us over. That, and a Doctor Who marathon on BBC America beginning on December 24 and playing right up to the new special airing January 1. Allons-y!
