Before he was the director of the Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn was a fun-loving geek just like the rest of us. Now, like many fans, he’s getting really tired of all the spoilers leaking out.

Potential spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!

A report from Heroic Hollywood recently broke, which claims to know the identity of Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) father. His parentage was a lingering mystery left over from the first film, and Gunn has previously teased it as a plot point they’ll explore in the upcoming sequel. Well, according to this report, there’s no need to wait until 2017 for the big reveal.

The story claims Star-Lord’s father is actually the original Captain Marvel, aka Mar-Vell, the male Silver Age character created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan back in the late 1960s. He eventually passed his powers on to Carol Danvers, the current Captain Marvel, who is getting her own standalone film in 2019. As far as theories go, it’s not a bad one, and could obviously provide some backstory for the eventual intro of Carol down the line.

There’s just one problem: According to Gunn, it’s not true. And none of the prevailing theories out there are right, either. With the story making the rounds, Gunn took to social media to fire off a response, voicing his disapproval of these so-called “scoops” that basically equate to major plot spoilers.
