We might be just a few weeks away from the kickoff of the fall television season, but CBS is keeping Supergirl on hold until late October. So, to keep us distracted, DC has been kind enough to launch a new trailer chock-full of superhero action.

Dubbed “Her Story,” the new trailer makes an effort to establish the connection — and difference — between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and her much more famous cousin. It’s a smooth sell, reminding fans this is definitely a story set within the Superman mythos, but just don’t expect him to be flying over from Metropolis every other week to help save the day. This cut shows off a good bit of the action and comic-book elements, as opposed to the more soap-y aspects.

As the trailer seems to hint, the pilot is a healthy mix of tried and true, Flash-esque superhero fun, and a lighter real-life drama that could’ve been a decent fit somewhere like The CW. A bit of an odd duck at CBS, admittedly, but the pilot shows a ton of promise — and this trailer offers up a peek at some of the best action set pieces in the premiere. If comic-book TV fans needed to be sold on the idea of Supergirl anchoring her own series, this should do the job.
