The upcoming Wonder Woman movie has its Diana and its Steve Trevor set, so now the rumor mill is churning out possibilities for its villains.
According to our pals at the always scoop-ready Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. Pictures and director Patty Jenkins are looking at Sean Bean and Eva Green to play the baddies who will go up against Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and her love Steve (Chris Pine).
Who would they play? Green is apparently being considered for the role of Circe, a sorceress based on the Greek mythology figure who'd had had a huge vendetta against Diana and the rest of the Amazons since making her DC Comics debut in 1949. She's stuck around ever since, with her latest print revamp taking place in 2011.
Bean, meanwhile, is up for the part of Ares, god of war, who made his first appearance in 1942 in Wonder Woman #1. Like Circe, he's based on the Greek figure and has been through numerous interpretations in the DC Universe, but has made it all the way into The New 52.
The casting seems right on the money: Bean has played a Greek god before (Zeus in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and knows his way around epic material like Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings and Troy, while Green was riveting as the fiery Artemisia in the otherwise mediocre 300: Rise of an Empire and now stars in the grim Penny Dreadful on Showtime.
None of this is confirmed for now, but filming is due to start in November, so expect some of these casting rumors to be proven true or false soon. Wonder Woman opens on June 23, 2017, although of course Diana will make her debut next March in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
