The U.S. Postal Service is having a rough go of it these days, but they still know how to partner up for some geekily awesome stamps. Case in point: these Star Trek stamps that will make you want to send mail again.
As part of the ongoing Star Trek 50th-anniversary celebration, the USPS is set to premiere a new four-stamp set of Forever stamps inspired by the iconic sci-fi series. The stamps were designed by art director Antonio Alcala at The Heads of State, and each one showcases an iconic image or graphical element from Star Trek: The Original Series. The four designs were recently unveiled at the official Star Trek website.
The four stamps include: the U.S.S. Enterprise inside the outline of a Starfleet insignia against a gold background; the silhouette of a crewman in a transporter against a red background; the silhouette of the Enterprise from above against a green background; and the Enterprise inside the outline of the Vulcan salute against a blue background.
So, how are they? The designs are top-notch, and heck, most fans would probably blow these up and hang them on the wall if they were ever put out in poster form. They’re very bright, and almost have a nice pop art vibe to them — all of which is reminiscent of the era surrounding the original series. Very well done.
They might just be cool enough to pull you to where no man has gone
before in a long time — the local post office.
