"They did not save your life. They stole it."
Ahead of this weekend's Super Bowl extravaganza, Paramount Pictures has released a new teaser for the Scarlett Johansson starrer Ghost in the Shell.
The video features the Avengers actress in action as Section 9 leader Major Motoko Kusanagi, aka The Major, as well as Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) as her right-hand man, Batou, as they hunt for a "nefarious computer hacker." We even get another look at Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire, Hannibal) as the movie's villain, Kuze.
Directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) from a screenplay by Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton) and Jamie Moss (Street Kings), Ghost in the Shell is based on the 1995 cyberpunk anime and 1989 seinen manga series created by Masamune Shirow. And from everything we've seen so far, this live-action adaptation sure will be a visual feast for the eyes! Let's hope it's got an awesome script as well.
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
Ghost in the Shell also stars Takeshi Kitano (Zatoichi) as Lt. Col. Daisuke Aramaki and Juliette Binoche (Godzilla) as Dr. Ouelet. Rounding out the cast are Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, Tuwanda Manyimo. The film opens on March 31.
That scene at the end of the teaser? It gave me chills. Check it out. Now.
