We got our first official look at the annual Arrowverse crossover tonight, and it seems like The CW event will be living up to the name of Elseworlds. The title comes from the DC comic series of books that would rewrite key elements of its own history, resulting in its heroes in radically different scenarios.
With that in mind, the trailer for this year's crossover begins with Oliver Queen, aka Arrow, (Stephen Amell) waking up in the apartment that belongs to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton). If that weren't strange enough, things get even weirder when he spots a picture of him with Iris, who greets him with pancakes, a good morning kiss, and a heartfelt "I love you, Barry Allen!"
It certainly packs a lot of confusion into its 20-second runtime. Although, it does seem to point to the costume swap poster that was released last month, which had Barry dressed as Arrow, and Oliver dressed as The Flash. The poster's tagline teased "Destiny Will Be Rewritten," which also comes up in the new trailer.
In addition to this Freaky Friday, but for superheroes scenario, Elseworlds will bring back John Wesley Shipp, possibly reprising his role as The Flash from the early 90s CBS series. It will also show Superman (Tylor Hoechlin) sporting an all-black suit, as well as introduce Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane and Ruby Rose's eagerly-awaited debut as Batwoman.
We'll have to see exactly how this plays out when the Elseworlds crossover kicks off its three-night event on Sunday, December 9th on The CW.
