Following Chris McKay’s statement that the search for Batman’s former sidekick Dick Grayson would be wide-ranging, the Nightwing movie director announced they will be holding open auditions in the hopes of finding the perfect former Boy Wonder for the DC Extended Universe movie written by Bill Dubuque (The Accountant).
Think you have the buns of steel needed for the role, or know someone who does?
The LEGO Batman Movie helmer took to Twitter to reveal that they will indeed be throwing their net far and wide in the search for the big-screen version of Dick Grayson, but there’s also a small but very important requirement:
Yep, it'll be open, but you should still have an agent or manager to audition for the role of Dick Grayson.
McKay previously warned that playing the role won’t be a walk in the park for the actor chosen for the part. “It's gonna be a f***ing badass action movie with a lot of heart and emotion. It’s gonna be a crazy, fun ride. Whoever gets cast as Nightwing, and any of the other actors around, are gonna go through a f***ng boot camp experience because it's gonna be a lot.” Unknowns will also have to go toe to toe with more established actors such as Dacre Montgomery, who recently threw his hat into the ring, Dave Franco, Jared Padalecki, and Drake Bell, who have all expressed interest in playing Nightwing.
For the sake of reference, Brenton Thwaites was recently cast as Dick Grayson in Warner Bros.’ live-action Titans TV series set to debut sometime in 2018 for their new DC streaming service (which will also include an animated Harley Quinn series), and is not to be confused with the DCEU solo flick.
Dick Grayson's Robin debuted in 1940's Detective Comics #38. Created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson, Grayson later became Nightwing when he retired as Batman’s sidekick in Tales of the Teen Titans #44 in 1984. This version of the character was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez.
Who do you think has the buns (and the acting chops) needed to become Nightwing in the Warner Bros. movie?
