With Spider-Man: Homecoming swinging into theaters Friday, Marvel will turn its full-fledged attention to the next movie in their Phase Three roster, Thor: Ragnarok, and we have what looks to be the first TV spot.
Billed as a "special look promo," the spot is basically a truncated version of the first trailer, complete with the rousing sounds of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and the now-classic "friend from work" quip.
Directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople), the movie sees the return of the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) — who was MIA from Captain America: Civil War — and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk — MIA in Civil War, too — as they are forced to fight in the Grandmaster's (Jeff Goldblum) gladiatorial arena.
Also back for an encore are Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Heimdall (Idris Elba), Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and more, while we'll also see the introduction of Marvel Comics characters Hela (Cate Blanchett, who looks like she was born for the role), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Skurge (Karl Urban) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok -- the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization -- at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger: the Incredible Hulk!
Thor: Ragnarok opens on Nov. 3.
