Thor 4: Natalie Portman wields Mjolnir on stage at SDCC

It's only been a couple of days since it was announced that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi would return and helm Thor 4, but the filmmaker, along with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con today to entice fans as to what we could expect from the Asgardian's latest outing — while also revealing its full name.

"There's nothing more powerful in the world than love and thunder," Waititi told the crowd, which included SYFY WIRE. Hence the (absolutely amazing) title of his latest MCU effort: Thor: Love and Thunder. Even the font is outstanding.

As far as the "love" aspect of the title, Thompson hinted that some romance could be on the horizon for Valkyrie. "In her first day as king of Asgard, I think Valkyrie has to find her queen," Thompson said. "She has a few ideas."

But it was the "thunder" portion of the presentation where things really took a turn. Natalie Portman, who played Jane Foster in the first two Thor films, took the stage to everyone's surprise. Then, Waititi explained that while making Ragnarok, he was reading Jason Aaron's The Mighty Thor comic, which made some major changes to the character. Waititi handed Portman Thor's hammer, Mjolnir — signaling an all-new era for the God of Thunder.

For those that haven't read it, Aaron introduced a female Thor back in the comics back in late 2014, who was later revealed to be Jane Foster. However, her wielding that power came at a great expense, as she was stricken with cancer at the time, which became progressively worse every time she made the transformation.

While this likely won't be a direct adaptation of the game-changing storyline, Aaron himself tweeted his 'thunderous excitement' over how Waititi and company will approach the character.

Portman also returned in a cameo of sorts in this year's Avengers: Endgame. While her character appeared via some old, unused footage from Thor: The Dark World, she recorded some background audio while Thor and Rocket Raccoon were traipsing around a past Asgard for one of the Infinity Stones.

Thor: Love and Thunder will storm into theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
