Thor: Ragnarok scores a radical '80s-style trailer makeover

Director Taika Waititi has imbued trailers for his flashy superhero romp, Thor: Ragnarok, with a glossy '80s color palette and rowdy rock n' roll vibe that allows it to stand apart from other entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It capitalizes on the already-entrenched nostalgic renaissance ignited by shows like Netflix's Stranger Things and Andy Muschietti's IT, then ramps it up with a garish gloss of permeated color, blaring Zeppelin tunes, and a breezy retro charm.

Further exploring this fantastic flashback feeling, check out this new Thor: Ragnarok trailer makeover employing the cheesy editing style and Reagan-era graphics seen in drive-in double features, straight-to-VHS releases, and urban grindhouse cinemas.

Do not adjust the horizontal on this jerky old-school trailer and watch lightning strike three times for Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok in Nerdist Presents' '80s promo perfection.
