Threat level zombie: Walking Dead to invade national landmarks

To promote its upcoming series The Walking Dead—which premieres Oct. 31—AMC will be launching zombie invasions in 26 major cities across the globe. What could possibly go wrong?

Hundreds of extras in zombie makeup will roam major landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Big Ben in London and the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The first cities to be hit by this "zombie outbreak stunt" will be Taipei and Hong Kong on Tuesday, Oct. 26, and then it will sweep the globe during a 24-hour period, ultimately culminating at the show's Los Angeles premiere.

AMC is taking big chances here with this kind of promotional stunt. In 2007, the Cartoon Network tried to pull off a similar guerrilla marketing campaign for its popular series Aqua Teen Hunger Force with disastrous results that led to to the firing of general manager Jim Samples and $2 million in fines for the network after light-board signs of one of the show's characters were mistaken for possible terrorist bombs. Let's hope nothing similar happens with AMC's ambitious stunt this week.

What do you think of AMC's method of promoting The Walking Dead?
