If you want to keep Guillermo Del Toro’s mysterious new monster as just that – a mystery – then look away now. Because a new behind-the-scenes featurette for his much-anticipated movie The Shape of Water is revealing a helluva lot about his fishy new creation.

We already told you that the beast – played by Guillermo’s go-to actor Doug Jones – is going to be somewhat sexy in this thriller. Judging by these new scenes, we can, erm, almost see what Guillermo and Jones meant by that – as British actress Sally Hawkins is seen snuggling up to the slimy sea creature, in a particularly intimate scene.

The effects look jaw-dropping, and we cannot wait to see the amphibious brute in all his gory glory on the big-screen. There’s been mounting buzz for this project ever since its Golden Lion win at the 2017 Venice Film Festival, and it's been making a big splash with critics already.

The Shape of Water follows mute janitor Elisa Esposito (Hawkins) who works in a government laboratory and discovers a sea-monster-of-sorts in a water tank. Out of loneliness, Elisa befriends Jones’ creature, and as we can see from the new footage, things get surprisingly romantic.

Yes, that’s right, we do get to see Jones and Hawkins on an unexpected trip to a movie theatre. Let’s hope the cinema had some plastic covered seats at the ready.
