Marvel Studios has become notorious for keeping plot points tightly hidden for future films — and sometimes — that means actually hiding them from the stars themselves. For a chatty guy like Tom Holland, that apparently means he finds out the plot twists a bit late in the game.
While taking to The Toronto Sun, Holland (who will be playing Spider-Man for the next few years, at least) revealed that Marvel has opted to leave him in the dark to avoid the potential for any leaks in promotional interviews. Which is both pretty smart, and pretty funny. Holland is a young actor, and a very personable guy, and he typically makes for a pretty good interview. You know, because he likes to talk. When it comes time to keeping secrets years in advance, that’s a problem.
Here’s the choice excerpt from the interview:
“I don’t know anything about it or what it’s about. I know who the villain is, but that’s it. They don’t let me read anything because I’m so bad at keeping secrets.”
We already knew Marvel plays its secrets close to the vest, and this is just a testament to the lengths the studio is willing to go to when it comes to protecting a surprise. Here’s hoping Avengers: Infinity War is worth all the effort and secrecy when it hits in 2018.
What do you think Marvel is so keen to protect? Major deaths? New characters? All of the above?
