Right up there with Eric Stoltz as Back to the Future's Marty McFly on the list of sci-fi might-have-beens is Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. And after taking a look at Selleck's screen test, we have to say—it was better than we thought it would be.

Nothing against Selleck—we're big Magnum P.I. fans—but once you've got Harrison Ford in your head, he's kinda hard to get out. Selleck, who was offered the part, couldn't get out of his Magnum P.I. contract, which left the door open for Ford to star in his second blockbuster franchise.

George Lucas says the screen test of Selleck and Sean Young was "really, really good." Personally, we think that may be one too many reallys. But still, it's worth seeing the Raiders of the Lost Ark that almost was.

This footage has apparently been around for a while, but since it's new to us, we're hoping it might be new to you as well.
