Tommy Lee Jones is joining forces with Brad Pitt to star in a futuristic space movie currently titled Ad Astra (working title) directed and co-written by James Gray (The Lost City of Z) and Ethan Gross (Fringe) for New Regency.
According to Deadline, Jones and Pitt will play a father and son duo. Apparently, the movie will have a “Heart of Darkness” vibe set in deep space. So, what's Ad Astra about? Here's the gist of the story:
In Ad Astra (which means “to the stars” in Latin), Pitt would play the slightly autistic space engineer Roy McBride. Twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, McBride travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.
Fun Fact: Pitt was supposed to star in Gray’s The Lost City of Z but stayed on as producer with Charlie Hunnam replacing him as the lead. The actor was also attached, at one point, to Gray’s The Gray Man. You know the saying, right?
Production on Ad Astra will be kicking off in September, so not long before we hear more about the intriguing new project.
What do you think of the premise of the movie? Are you looking forward to Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones working together (assuming they will get to interact) on an epic deep space film?
