Why so serious, Tommy? Last month, SYFY reported that Tommy Wiseau, director of The Room and subject of James Franco’s biopic The Disaster Artist had publicly expressed interest in playing The Joker in director Todd Phillips’s upcoming standalone film centered around Batman’s greatest foe.
Well, in the “Perhaps We’re Taking This Joke A Bit Too Far” Department, Nerdist has shot Wiseau’s audition tape to give us all an idea of what he’d look and sound like as the Clown Prince of Crime. The results are the stuff of nightmares.
Made up to resemble the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker from Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film The Dark Knight, Wiseau delivers – er, yells – lines from previous Batman films. So, it’s not so much a showcase of how Wiseau would play the role so much as how he’d…I guess the word is impersonate…? the actors who have played previous incarnations of the character. Fortunately, the audition tape is eventually given a healthy shot of Sestosterone, as The Room and forthcoming Best F(r)iends co-star Greg Sestero shows up to play Batman. So, there’s that.
Look. We all know that Joaquin Phoenix will most likely be taking on the role, as he’s been the one in talks with director Phillips to play the Joker. But at least now we get a sense of what Wiseau’s Joker would look and sound like.
So, has this audition tape turned anyone around on the idea of Tommy as The Joker? Let us know in the comments below.
