Horror is big business these days, and Syfy is getting in on the action with the anthology series Channel Zero. Now we have our first look at footage from the freak-fest.
The first season of the series, subtitled Candle Cove, focuses on one man’s obsessive recollections of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s, and his suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood. It should sound familiar to folks who read scary tales on the Internet, as it's based on a popular “creepypasta” that keeps kicking around for a while.
The first teaser focuses on a young boy who carries a handful of teeth to meet a creature in the woods. Let’s just say he does not find the tooth fairy you might’ve been expecting. The teaser is certainly evocative of the terrifying little vignettes American Horror Story has used so successfully, and it does what it sets out to do. That’s for sure.
The series itself will consist of six episodes (another six episode season is already planned in 2017), with Max Landis and Nick Antosca attached to executive-produce.
Channel Zero premieres Sept. 27 on Syfy.
