A few genre heavyweights are coming together for a new sci-fi thriller, and we’re actually pretty interested to see how this one turns out. Think X-Files meets Push.
Dubbed Black Chapter, the film was written by Zak Penn (The Avengers, X-Men 2) and will be directed by Len Wiseman (Total Recall, Underworld). The plot will focus on an FBI agent who is drawn into a classified military program that trains its operatives to use paranormal abilities.
The duo developed the project together, using secret government programs such as the CIA’s astral projection experiments as a jumping-off point.
Here’s how Skydance's David Ellison described the project to The Hollywood Reporter:
“Len and Zak have created a truly original piece of science fiction that reimagines the spy genre set in the world of the supernatural. This is exactly the type of original storytelling that we want to produce.”
Though Wiseman stumbled with his Total Recall reboot, his Underworld films always had a mid-budget charm about them. But he also had a hand in creating Fox’s stellar Sleepy Hollow series, so that’s another point or two back on the right side.
Penn’s involvement is also a very interesting sign, as he’s had a hand in quite a few major Marvel movies over the past decade or so. His writing credits include The Avengers, X-Men 2, Fantastic Four, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk. Admittedly, some of those are hit and miss, but there’s no denying he knows his genre stuff.
Do you think this is a project you'd be interested in seeing?
