Wizards of the Coast, owner of Dungeons & Dragons as well as Magic: The Gathering, has announced that it would be rolling out a brand-new Transformers trading card game later this year. Since both Wizards and Transformers are owned by Hasbro, this seems like a match made in heaven, perhaps on par with the hot phenomenona that were Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Designed for fans 8 and up, the Transformers Trading Card Game was created with a battle format between two players in mind. The early Autobots starter pack (out Sept. 28) will include cards for Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, and Red Alert. Booster packs (released on the same date) will include a single character card and eight battle cards.

“From Bumblebee to Sunstorm – the game is digging deep into the Transformers lore,” said Drew Nolosco, Transformers Trading Card Game brand manager, in a release provided to SYFY WIRE. “We can even focus on different aspects of the same character. Optimus Prime, for example, is immensely powerful in combat, but he’s also a master tactician. The Transformers TCG will let players explore the characters’ depth through engaging and tactical gameplay.”

Attendees at San Diego Comic-Con and Gen Con in Indianapolis can get their hands on a limited supply of four cards from the general game, along with Transformers Trading Card Game Convention Edition. Anyone unable to attend these events can try to obtain a pack or two via the Hasbro Toy Shop (HasbroToyShop.com) once the conventions have ended. The Convention Edition cards include characters like Cliffjumper, Renegade Warrior, Slipstream - Strategic Seeker, and battle moves like All-Out Attack and Tandem Targeting System.
