Godzilla vs. Kong's growing cast just added another major star. Deadline reports Alexander Skarsgard, best known among genre fans as the vampire Eric Northman on HBO's hit series True Blood, has closed a deal with Legendary Pictures to join the film. Demian Bichir, Brian Tyree Henry, and Julian Dennison have also joined the cast, and Millie Bobby Brown is expected to reprise her role from next year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Godzilla vs. Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard (You're Next), and while we don't know much about the plot, we can expect something like exactly what it says on the tin. The film will serve as a sequel to both Kong: Skull Island and King of the Monsters, and will be the fourth installment in Legendary's still-expanding kaiju universe.
In addition to True Blood, Skarsgard also recently took on the iconic title role in The Legend of Tarzan and led the cast of Duncan Jones' Mute, but his most prominent recent success was the HBO series Big Little Lies, for which he took home Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, and Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor. Now, he's returning to genre in a big way, and while we don't know much about his role, Variety reports that he's likely to play "the leader of a military unit."
Godzilla vs. Kong hits theaters May 22, 2020.
