It’s been a little while since a cinematic game of Truth or Dare went horribly awry, so Blumhouse is taking the opportunity to remind you why making your friends confess to/perform embarrassing things is never a good idea when you’re in a horror movie.
Now Truth or Dare gets a trailer full of beer-swilling, dare-making, hormone-flowing young folks ripe for the murdering. And if you don’t play the game ... that’s just what happens.
Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Landon Liboiron, and Violett Beane all bring their TV-honed chops to the game that seems to inflict a creepy smile on those unwilling or unable to follow its commands. Supernatural-rules-based horror always sets the stage for fun reveals and plenty of suspenseful situations, but the main question is why is this happening?
The film’s poster also seems intrigued by that idea, which you can see below:
Blumhouse has been killing it recently, with Get Out being a smash, Split doing big numbers, and even Happy Death Day turning into a surprise hit. Its formula (make it cheap, make it fun) has been unstoppable so far. Director Jeff Wadlow, who was a key creative on Bates Motel and The Strain, will bring plenty of creepy mystery to the low-fi slasher, likely turning it into another hit for the company.
Truth or Dare will be played in theaters on April 27.
