TV THIS WEEK: Lucifer returns, Last Man on Earth comes to an end and more

The buzzy summer shows are starting to settle in, along with an eagerly anticipated midseason premiere.

This week, we have all-new episodes of Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow — led by an episode of Supergirl that puts Alex in the hands of a madman who seems to have watched way too many Saw movies. There's also the return of Lucifer, a new Doctor Who and a new episode of The Leftovers. This week also brings the season finale of Fox's excellent end-of-the-world sitcom Last Man on Earth.

Supergirl (The CW), Monday 8PM - "Alex"

Alex is kidnapped and the kidnapper threatens to kill her unless Supergirl releases a notorious criminal from prison. Supergirl and Maggie have always had different approaches to apprehending criminals, but this time they must work together to save Alex. Meanwhile, Rhea has an interesting proposal for Lena.


Lucifer (Fox), Monday, 9PM - "Candy Morningstar"

MIDSEASON PREMIERE: Following Chloe's near-death, Lucifer disappears and cuts off all contact with family and the police department but materializes in time to help solve the murder of an up-and-coming guitarist and introduce the department to a ditzy stripper, a new mystery woman in his life. While Lucifer's mom desperately tries to contact her son, Chloe tries to push him away and he must find a way to prove himself in order to be invited back onto the team.


Doctor Who (BBC America), Saturday 8PM - "Knock Knock"

Bill is moving in with some friends and they've found the perfect house - so what if it's strangely cheap to rent and the landlord is a little creepy?


The Last Man on Earth (Fox), Sunday 9PM - "When the Going Gets Tough; Nature's Horchata"

SEASON FINALE: In a combined Season 3 finale, the long-term consequences of surviving an apocalyptic event start to have a major impact on the group as their daily lives are turned upside down.


The Leftovers (HBO), Sunday 9PM - "G'Day Melbourne"

Kevin and Nora take a trip to Australia, where she continues to follow the masterminds of an elaborate con, while he is surprised by a face from the past that takes him back to the traumatic events from three years ago.

Monday, May 1

Gotham (Fox), Monday 8PM - "Heroes Rise: These Delicate and Dark Obsessions"

The Court of Owls devises a new plan regarding the future of Gotham; Gordon uncovers information about his father's and uncle's past, connecting him back to the organization; and Bruce wakes up in the temple and learns of the Shaman's wish for him.

Scorpion (CBS), Monday 10PM - "Something Burrowed, Something Blew"

The team help Toby and Happy race to the altar to say "I Do" after a simple job extinguishing a tunnel fire becomes catastrophic.

Tuesday, May 2

The Flash (The CW), Tuesday 8PM - "I Know Who You Are"

Barry and the team meet Tracy Brand, a scientist who may be the key to stopping Savitar. Unfortunately, Killer Frost is also after Tracy, so Team Flash must battle their old friend, which proves to be particularly difficult for Cisco. Meanwhile, Joe and Cecile's relationship takes a big turn.


iZombie (The CW), Tuesday 9PM - "Spanking the Zombie"

Liv consumes the brains of a dominatrix, and her bossy and controlling personality makes everyone a little uncomfortable, especially Clive. Meanwhile, Blaine and Peyton have a heart-to-heart talk.


Imaginary Mary (ABC), Tuesday 9:30PM - "Alice the Mole"

Alice faces a dilemma after trying to connect with Dora and turns to Mary and Ben for help. Elsewhere: Ben tags along with Andy, which threatens Andy's unique identity.


Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC), Tuesday 10PM - "Farewell, Cruel World!"

Daisy and Simmons rush to get the team out of the Framework, but not everyone is ready and willing to leave.


The Americans (FX), Tuesday 10PM - "IHOP"

Philip and Elizabeth are thrown off balance when things with Tuan take an unexpected turn. Meanwhile, Henry makes a startling proposition and Stan has a disturbing encounter with Frank Gaad's widow.

Wednesday, May 3

Arrow (The CW), Wednesday 8PM - "Underneath"

Things get intense when Oliver and Felicity are trapped in the bunker together. Meanwhile, Lyla and Diggle deal with their martial issues.


Blindspot (NBC), Wednesday 8PM - "In Words, Drown I"

Zapata's transgressions catch up to her, sending her to jail alongside a powerful Sandstorm asset named Devon. As a result, Weller and the team go to exceptional lengths to help out Zapata.


The 100 (The CW), Wednesday 9PM - "Die All, Die Merrily"

Octavia fights in the final battle for her people's survival, but not everyone is willing to play fair.

Thursday, May 4

Supernatural (The CW), Thursday 8PM - "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes"

Alicia Banes calls Mary for help after her mother goes missing. Sam answers Mary's phone and he and Dean head out to help Alicia and her twin brother find their mother who was hunting a powerful witch. Meanwhile, Mary starts to have some doubts about the British Men of Letters.


The Big Bang Theory (CBS), Thursday 8PM - "The Gyroscopic Collapse"

Leonard, Sheldon and Wolowitz celebrate the successful completion of their top-secret military project, until an unpleasant surprise leaves their heads spinning. Also, Amy considers an offer of a summer position as a visiting researcher.


Riverdale (The CW), Thursday 9PM - "Chapter Twelve: Anatomy of a Murder"

Archie and Veronica are shocked by the arrest but know they must come clean to their parents about what they uncovered and, still hurt by the betrayal of his friends and torn over whom to trust, a reluctant Jughead joins them in a quest for truth. Meanwhile, Cheryl confronts her mom about how she treats her as opposed to how she did Jason.

Friday, May 5

The Originals (The CW), Friday 8PM - "High Water and a Devil's Daughter"

Freya places a protection spell on the compound when it's discovered that the Hollow's latest servant is on the loose, but it forces Klaus, Hayley and Hope to remain inside. Meanwhile, Elijah takes matters into his own hands when Vincent is reluctant to perform a dangerous ritual needed to strengthen their defense against the Hollow; and Freya enacts a risky plan that brings her face to face with their latest threat, but an unexpected twist leaves her life hanging in the balance.

Saturday, May 6

Doctor Who (BBC America), Saturday 8PM - "Knock Knock"

Part 1 of 2. April struggles to control herself following events at the prom and Dorothea introduces herself as the new headteacher of Coal Hill Academy.


The Dead Files (Travel Channel), Saturday 9PM - "Hell in the Heartland - Kearney, Missouri"

Steve DiSchiavi and Amy Allan investigate violent paranormal activity at a family home in the small town of Kearney, MO. During their separate investigations, Steve tracks down the history of a ruthless Civil War-era gang leader, while Amy encounters several deceased individuals, including a trapped male spirit and a dead woman capable of physically assaulting the living.

Sunday, May 7

Once Upon a Time (ABC), Sunday 8PM - "The Song in Your Heart"

The fairy tale drama takes a shot at a musical episode.


Making History (Fox), Sunday 8:30PM - "The Duel"

Just before heading back to colonial times, John Hancock and Sam Adams meet the perfect woman and decide that a duel would be the best way to determine who gets to court her. Meanwhile, Dan attempts to garner some good publicity for Chadwick's by setting up a meeting with a local reporter, who grills him about Deborah's identity.

American Gods (Starz), Sunday 9PM - "The Secret of Spoons"

The second episode of Starz's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed fantasy novel.


Elementary (CBS), Sunday 10PM - "Moving Targets"

A reality show contestant is murdered, and Holmes and Watson zero in on another competitor as a suspect, a war criminal who may be the most skilled killer they have ever pursued. Meanwhile, Shinwell asks Joan for a favor for the first time since he attacked Sherlock.

Into the Badlands (AMC), Sunday 10PM - "Sting of the Scorpion's Tail"

Sunny plays a dangerous game, causing his friends to question his loyalty. Meanwhile, the Widow discovers the existence of a new weapon as her alliance falters.
