We have not one, but two, big cable premieres this week — welcome to the super-early start of the (early part of the) fall season. Things are finally starting to heat back up.

USA's high-profile, small screen adaptation of The Purge horror franchise makes its debut this week as an event series. We don't quite know if it can keep up the cinematic tension over a 10-episode season, but if nothing else it should make for an interesting experiment. TNT is also debuting the final season of its post-apocalyptic thriller The Last Ship, and the crew of the Nathan James will be called upon to save the world one last time.

Beyond that, SYFY has new episodes of Wynonna Earp and Killjoys, CBS has a new Salvation, AMC has a new Fear the Walking Dead, and History has a new installment of the revitalized In Search Of. There are also a few slow nights, but don't worry, we've highlighted some basic cable movie gems to keep you entertained.
