Our TV roundup is still recovering from the holiday season, so many of the shows we're really looking forward to this winter aren't back yet. It's a little quiet out there, but not that quiet, because this week we get the debut of The Shannara Chronicles, MTV's attempt to capitalize on the wave of fantasy TV we're getting lately. Plus, Teen Wolf is finally back, we get five straight days of new Steven Universe, and Supergirl makes its midseason return.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Steven Universe (TOON) 5:30 p.m. - All Week Long

A week of premieres! - Ask animation fans of any age to name the best shows in the medium right now, and Steven Universe will very likely come up a lot. Over the course of two seasons so far, the show has developed an increasingly intruiging mythology as well as a tremendous heart, but unfortunately we haven't seen a new episode since October. That changes this week, as the show returns with five straight days of new episodes, beginning with Garnet's story of how she became a Gem. Check out a preview below.

Teen Wolf (MTV) Tuesday, 9 p.m. - "The Last Chimera"

Midseason premiere! - We haven't seen Teen Wolf since August, but this is technically the continuation of its fifth season after a long wait ... but this time something's different. It's not just standing on its own as an MTV original, but serving as a lead-in for The Shannara Chronicles series, which premieres on the same night. Over the course of its run, Teen Wolf has built a devoted fandom and set itself quite far apart from its source material. Now we have to see if it sustains it, and if it can help its new genre network-mate rise to the heights that MTV is hoping for. Check out a preview below.

The Shannara Chronicles (MTV) Tuesday, 10 p.m. - "Chosen"

Series premiere! - Ever since Game of Thrones exploded into a TV phenomenon, network executives have been after their own version of that success, and since Lord of the Rings was taken, MTV's trying its hand at another of the most influential fantasy sagas ever published: Terry Brooks' Shannara series. The novels have sold millions of copies since their debut in 1977, the show's young leads match MTV's demographic aims, and Brooks himself has given the show his blessing, ensuring that die-hard fans will tune in at least initially. Plus, the show will debut with the powerful lead-in that is Teen Wolf. If it works, it will cement a new block of genre programming for MTV and further the expansion of fantasy TV on cable. If it doesn't ... well, let's just wait and see. Check out a preview below.

Heroes Reborn (NBC) Thursday, 8 p.m. - "Send In the Clones"

Midseason premiere! - When we last left Heroes Reborn, our heroes were on the brink, facing the final act of the struggle the miniseries has set up, and now we finally get to see that play out. There are just three episodes left, and we're still not sure if this miniseries revival was really worth it, but we're about to find out.

Angel From Hell (CBS) Thursday, 9:30 p.m. - "Pilot"

Series premiere! - At this point, it's hard to tell how much this new sitcom will actually verge into drama territory, but we're light on new shows right now, it's got an interesting premise, and it stars the amazing Jane Lynch, so I'm going to talk about it for a minute anyway. Lynch stars as Amy, an eccentric woman who approaches Allison (Psych's Maggie Lawson), a perfectionist professional, and proclaims herself to be her guardian angel. At first, Allison thinks she's crazy, but then Amy starts making wild predictions that are actually coming true. Like I said, we don't yet know just how supernatural the show will get, but if you want to watch Jane Lynch be charming for half an hour, tune in. Check out a preview below.
