Twilight sweeps Teen Choice Awards

The young adult vampire flick Twilight swept the 11th annual Teen Choice Awards, winning in eleven categories at a ceremony held Sunday night at the Universal Studios Hollywood's Gibson Amphitheatre, the LA Times reports.

The movie, based on Stephenie Meyer's hugely best-selling novel about a teen girl named Bella who moves to a new town and falls in love with a dreamy vampire boy named Edward, took awards in the Choice Movie Drama and Romance categories.

Star Robert Pattinson, who plays vamp Edawrd Cullen, beat out the likes of Brad Pitt (nominated for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Hugh Jackman (Australia) and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) for Choice Movie Actor Drama. Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, beat out Nicole Kidman (Australia), and Angelina Jolie (Changeling) for Choice Movie Actress Drama.

Other categories dominated by Twilight include Choice Movie Liplock and Rumble.

Twilight is first in a series of adaptations of Meyer's novels. The next film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, will open in November of 2009.

The Teen Choice Awards will be televised on Monday, August 9 at 8 PM on FOX.
