Hard to believe now, but there was a time when TPTB thought that The Twilight Saga: New Moon's teen werewolf Taylor Lautner was too skinny to play Jacob.

But 17-year-old Lautner beefed up enough to take his shirt off in the hit sequel, and now he's apparently persuaded enough people that he's a credible hunk that he's being considered to play the lead in Max Steel, about a teen superhero.

Here's how the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog reported it:

Lautner would play Josh McGrath, a 19-year-old extreme-sports athlete who is accidentally exposed to the unleashed power of nanotechological machines, which become part of him and (in the old show, at least) give him increased strength, near-invulnerability and the ability to change his appearance.

It's worth noting that Paramount and other studios are eager to cast Lautner because he can bring young women into theaters—always a positive for any action picture.

It's noteworthy that Lautner began his career in part by playing a boy superhero in Robert Rodriguez's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D in 2005.
