Two of the more popular actresses in the sci-fi genre are delving into the realm of horror with a new British chiller called Oculus.

Doctor Who alumnus Karen Gillan and Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff star in this independent film, which was written and directed by Mike Flanagan and premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival last September to strong reviews.

Gillan plays Kaylie, a young woman who reunites with her troubled brother Tim after he is released from prison for the murder of their parents (their mother is played by Sackhoff in flashbacks). Kaylie is convinced that her brother is innocent and that their parents were killed by an evil force hidden in an antique mirror that was in their home at the time.

Bringing a reluctant Tim along with her, Kaylie hunts down the mirror and discovers that it has left a trail of death behind it, and that whatever lurks within the glass may not be finished with her and her brother.

Gillan will also be seen later this year in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as the bald and blue villain Nebula, while Sackhoff was most recently in Riddick and has been in the Marvel rumor mix herself regarding the role of Captain/Ms. Marvel.

Oculus, which also stars Brendon Thwaites and Rory Cochrane, opens in the U.S. on April 11, and judging from the trailer, this will put a little chill in your spring weather. Gillan and Sackhoff in a creepy-looking new horror pic -- will that get you into the theater?
