While fans of The CW's Arrowverse eagerly await this year's crossover event in December, Stephen Amell, aka Green Arrow, has given us a sneak peek of Superman in the black suit.

Over on the actor’s Instagram page, Amell posted a photo of him with Grant Gustin, aka the Flash, and Tyler Hoechlin, who plays the Man of Steel, sporting the black Kryptonian threads.

Check it out below:

The black suit was originally made popular in the 1990s when Superman came back from the dead in the “Reign of the Supermen” comic book storyline (this was after "The Death of Superman" storyline in which Kal-El was killed, or rather "killed," by Doomsday). There was even some talk about Henry Cavill donning the black suit for his portrayal of the Last Son of Krypton in Justice League. Obviously, we have no real clue why the small screen Superman is donning the black duds at this point.

In addition to featuring the return of Hoechlin's Superman, the upcoming annual crossover event, "Elseworlds," will also feature the debut of Ruby Rose's Batwoman and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane.

The “Elseworlds” crossover event begins on Sunday, Dec. 9, and runs through Tuesday, Dec. 11. It will play across Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash (but alas, not Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning).
